Laboratory Safety Training Checklist
All GW faculty, staff, and students, who conduct work in research laboratories must complete annual safety training. Your training requirements are determined by the specific biological materials and or lab procedures used in your lab. Please read the checklist below to determine and schedule the training specific to you.
If you work in any lab you must:
Attend General Lab Safety Training
Complete the Health & Emergency Management Services General Lab Safety Training.
- Register for a virtual training time.
- Send your training certificate of completion to your PI and tiaraajenkins
gwu [dot] edu.
Attend or Complete Lab Specific Safety Training
- Your PI may have safety information and or training materials that are specific to the substances and methods used in your lab.
- Contact your PI to make sure you have this information.
If your lab work involves biological substances, you must:
Complete Bio-safety & Bloodborne Pathogens Training
Below are the links to the Biosafety/Bloodborne Pathogens training materials and quiz. This training should only be completed Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm.

- Upon successful completion of the quiz, you will receive an email certificate. Keep a copy for your records, and send a copy to your PI and tiaraajenkins
gwu [dot] edu.
Complete Biosafety Cabinet Training
In addition to the above training, if you work with a biosafety cabinet, you need to complete the Biosafety Cabinet training provided by the CDC:
- Complete the Biosafety Cabinet training.
- Send your training certificate of completion to your PI and tiaraajenkins
